Ninja Suit, The Veil of Invisibility
The ninja outfit, or ninja suit, was designed to give the ninja the ability to move, to be unseen and to carry his weapons.
Most people associate a hood with the ninja. This was only one piece of the ninja suit. And we always think of a ninja in black. This may have been effective in some situations.
But the ninja outfit that would be most effective would be the ninja outfit that would allow him to move about unnoticed. The best ninja suit would have been whatever would cause the least amount of suspicion. The proper ninja outfit would be the clothes that would allow the ninja to move about without being seen, invisibility.
A common example of a ninja outfit would be wearing a construction workers clothes when infiltrating the Emperors palace. Anyone seeing this person would naturally assume they should be there and let them go about their business.

Additionally, the construction worker would carry tools.
These tools could be used as:
- Weapons in case defense or,
- Diversion when needed.
One of these tools would be the ninja shuriken, or throwing star.

The ninja tabi were critical. Ninja tabi are split toes shoes that are a bit like mittens for your feet.
The ninja tabi would have a space for your big toe and another space for the rest of your
toes. This would allow for superior balance, slipping in and out of foot ware of the day, much like slippers or sandels.
The ninja tabi would also allowed for more balance and agility. Tabi, and their split toe design facilitated climbing and scaling walls.

Even today the .clothes we wear may determine the outcome of a fight
While training in our ninja suits and tabi shoes allow us the feeling of flexibility and freedom of movement, I really enjoy our “street cloths” training days when we are encouraged to wear clothing that is restrictive. Training in this format gives us a sense of what it would be like to be a ninja outside the dojo and on the street.
