Genbukan – One
Branch of the Ninjutsu Tree
There are three major branches that have grown from the original martial art of ninjutsu:
- The Genbukan
- The Jinenkan
- To Shin Do
All three were founded by students of Masaaki Hatsumi, the 34th grandmaster of ninjutsu.
Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura founded The Genbukan. The Genbukan is a self defense martial art developed to give people the ability to defend themselves using techniques, not only for the body, but also for mental and spiritual protection .
The Genbukan is not only a martial art, it is an international organization. It is Shoto Tanemura’s belief that The Genbukan and its curriculum can help people find their purpose and mission in life and is designed to help the practitioner attain happiness.
Fumio Manaka founded The Jinenkan in 1996. The Jinenkan was developed to allow people to study and train in an ancient and authentic form of ninjutsu. The areas of study include:
- Taijutsu (unarmed fighting skills)
- Bikenjutsu (sword arts)
- Yari (spear)
- Naginata (halberd)
- Tessen (iron fan)
- Jutte (truncheon)
- Kusari-fundo (weighted chain)
- Tantojutsu (knife)
- Bo
- Hanbo,
- Jo (staff arts)
Genbukan and Jinenkan are valid and effective schools of ninjutsu and anyone who studies with a competent teacher should consider themselves fortunate.

I like working with intention and would like to get better at it.
Intention is at the heart of this art. You will learn how to project your will and intention on others and to sense and read their intention.
